What it isIn the case of death of a loved one, this ministry provides care by offering an occasion for family and friends to gather following the funeral/memorial service. The time of the reception is determined with the pastor who is assisting the family in this time of loss in coordination with the church scheduling calendar.
This ministry offers
- Ushering.
- Reception of flowers as they arrive.
- Easels for photo displays if not provided by the funeral home.
- Set up of a "family room" for meeting prior to the service.
- Set up of a table for the guest book.
- Set up and take down of chairs and tables for the reception in the lobby. An approximate number expected to attend is needed.
- Table clothes and center pieces for the tables.
- Buffet service of snacks. According to the situation, the following are offered:
- Coffee, tea, and cold drinks along with cookies.
- A light lunch of pre-ordered trays of finger foods.
- A suggested donation to the Deacons Fund is $1.00 per person for "a" and $3.00 per person for "b".
What it is not The funeral/memorial service and graveside service is planned in conjunction with a pastor and the chosen funeral home. The pastor will meet with the family to discuss all aspects of the service and gather information used in planning the reception.
Preparing and serving full meals is beyond the scope of this ministry; however, if a family desires to cater in the meal or provide the meal through other sources, the Memorial Reception team will assist with the above listed items.
