Deacon Ministry

What it is
Deacons seek to provide pastoral care to the congregation at PEPC.  They are the "eyes and ears" of the church by being aware of the needs that surface in our congregation.  Each deacon has a number of church members and regular attendees assigned to him/her.  These groups are called parishes.  

Deacons are brokers of care.  They assist members of their parish in finding resources to meet needs the person or family may have.  They know who to go to for help and if they don't, they will either provide the care directly or find another source.  If the person is in a small group, the deacon will assist that small group in providing for the needs.   

Deacons also have the responsibility of preparing the church facilities for worship services including, but not limited to:  fellowship and communion elements, greeting, ushering, collection and counting of the offering, taking attendance, cleanup and lockup at the end of the worship service.  They can also perform other duties as may be delegated by the Session.  

Deacons are selected by a nominating team.  This team is put in place each year and selects the next year's set of deacons.  Potential deacons are interviewed and their names are submitted for approval at the annual meeting.  Deacons serve a total of 3 years.  

What it is not
The Deacon Ministry is not only a worship service responsibility, but it is primarily a care ministry for individuals/families.   How do I access it? You should know who your deacon is.  If not, please call the church office at 303-841-2125.
